This is a grand project. No one dared to reproduce ancient Kiev, the capital of the biggest country of medieval Europe, till construction of “Kievan Rus” Park was started to the South of Ukrainian capital. The Park is supposed to reproduce the city in the way it looked in the period of its golden age. Celebrations, knight tournaments, historic reconstructions, master – classes and tasting are conducted in the park almost all year round. We invite you to visit this remarkable place and feel as if you were in the bygone epoch.

The project impresses by its range. The organizers set themselves the task to reproduce Detinets, the oldest part of Kiev, on a scale of 1:1 with maximum historic authenticity. And not just to reproduce, but saturate this territory with atmosphere of Kievan Rus. Total area of the park “Kievan Rus” is 50 hectares. The territory of Detinets is 10 hectares.

Construction works are still being carried out here. Such scale demands time. But even what the park has now is worth great interest. “Kievan Rus” is the first historic park on the territory of The CIS. There are tens of such parks in Europe, North America, Egypt, in some countries of Asia. For us “Kievan Rus” Park is the first one. And it’s worth coming here, to the picturesque Obukhov land.

There are daily celebrations on the territory of the Park: tournaments, historic reconstructions, fire shows, festivals. But these events are just “everyday work” of the Park. An extensive festival program, which will last till October this year, is at guests` service. Here you can immerge into atmosphere of thousand-year remoteness, feel culture, architecture and mode of life of Kievan Rus.

A number of objects have been restored in the Park by now: defensive installations of the town of Vladimir and town of Kiy (earth ramparts and ditches), entrance gate with two three-level towers, stadium (place where heroic tournaments and contests were held), Prince’s place (a tribune for honorable guests), watchtowers, camp of Vikings and Nomads, mansion of a Kiev resident of 11-12 centuries and so on.

Constructions of “Kievan Rus” are reproduced with maximum historic authenticity, based on materials of archeological researches and scientific data. The leading historians and archeologists of Ukraine, the CIS and Europe work at implementation of the project.

And this is just the beginning of work. The Park keeps developing, construction in it doesn’t stop. Buildings of the Prince Epoch, which used to stand at our mutual Slavic Acropolis– old Kiev Mountain - are planned to be restored on the territory of the Park. Palace of Prince Vladimir, Palace of Princess Olga, Fedorovskiy Monastery, the Church of the Dime, Yaroslavov Yard, Rotunda, fortifications and others are among them. Atmosphere of a live city with its streets, fairs and… townspeople is maximally precisely reproduced on these streets and squares. The way it should be: in Old Russian costumes, vestment and armour when necessary.

The culture program of the Park in these festival days can be called “land of merrymaking, stadiums and useful arts”. It reflects all three components of our ancestors` life: work, rest and war. Adopted for the stage battles, medieval games, tournaments and competitions of men-at-arms, horsed theatres of stunt men, demonstration of historic traditions and ceremonies, Old Slavic feasts, exhibitions of artists and fairs of folk masters, concerts of ethnic folk groups are supposed to fill with life the restored walls.

But this is about watching others. How about showing oneself as it was traditional in Old Russia? This is quite possible and even desirable in the Park. For example, on the territory of the Park one can play Old Russian games, many of which are familiar to us only by their names: palenitsa, repa, podsekalochka, etc. You can try to work at the archeodrom, learning laborious work of finding antiquities or try bow shooting and participate in horse competition. You can also have a photo session in Old Russian costumes and get a charter from Nestor the Chronicler.

And another little surprise for you: excursion program about historic Park includes attendance of exhibition of reconstruction of Old Russian weapons models.
